The final steel beam has been placed on the new inpatient tower at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. The nine-story, 545,000-square-foot tower is the centerpiece of the medical center’s 1.3-million-square-foot campus redevelopment and the final building to rise on the 72-acre site.
Once complete, the facility will provide 347 patient beds, including 44 intensive care beds, 200 medical-surgical beds, 20 neonatal intensive care beds and 36 mental health beds.
Part of a modern Level I Trauma Center, the tower is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification and is complemented by a 370,000-square-foot outpatient facility. Together, the new facilities will enhance patient care, streamline operations and foster a healing-centered, community-connected environment that redefines healthcare delivery in Southern California. The Design-Build team includes Hensel Phelps, HMC Architects and CO Architects.
