1st Phase of New Complex for University of Iowa Health Care Tops Out
A topping out celebration was held for the first building of a new academic healthcare campus for University of Iowa Health Care. The 469,050-square-foot facility is part of the first phase of the masterplan for expanding UI Heath Care capacity on a nearly 60-acre site in North Liberty, Iowa.
The project includes a three-story hospital with mechanical penthouse that contains diagnostic imaging, surgery, lab, central sterile, pharmacy, food service, patient rooms and emergency services. Attached to the hospital is a five-story outpatient clinic with a mechanical penthouse that includes university academic medicine education and research facilities, exam rooms, imaging and indoor/outdoor physical therapy and rehabilitation services. The new healthcare complex is supported with a standalone central utility plant, which is designed to be expanded when future phases of the masterplan are constructed.
Construction on the first phase of the masterplan commenced in September 2021 and is expected to complete December 2024. The project team includes JE Dunn Construction and Neumann Monson Architects.
