Construction on the 83,000-square-foot, three-story St. Joseph’s/Candler ambulatory services hub in Pooler, Georgia is complete. The new facility aims to attract the region’s younger residents by creating a convenient, welcoming and patient-centric environment and ultimately expand St. Joseph’s/Candler’s market share. The new 18.3-acre campus is located near two interstates to provide easy access.
Gresham Smith provided planning, architecture, interior design and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services for the project. JE Dunn served as general contractor.
“We are creating an adaptable and efficient space to accommodate future growth and phasing,” said Rick Bouchereau AIA, LEED AP, principal and senior architect at Gresham Smith. “We looked for ways to mitigate barriers between clinical functions to maximize efficiencies and also built in flexibility, including the demountable partitions in the tenant space. It was important that this ambulatory services hub reflects the larger St. Joseph’s/Candler brand while setting the tone for the overall campus and authentically reflecting the community it serves.”
The facility houses ambulatory surgery, including a da Vinci Surgical System powered by robotic technology to support minimally invasive surgery, pre-admission testing, imaging, urgent care, primary care, an OBGYN clinic, shell space and tenant space. It is part of a 10-year multi-phased project. Future phases of work on the campus may include the potential development of a micro-hospital with overnight capabilities.
