Maria Ionescu has joined Stantec as senior medical planner and senior project manager in its healthcare buildings team in Los Angeles, California. With 25 years of experience across the globe, Ionescu has built a reputation for transformational healthcare planning and design, helping large stakeholder groups identify their needs and priorities.

Ionescu comes to Stantec from Singapore, where she has served as the lead healthcare project manager on multiple facilities. Prior to working in Asia, Ionescu acted as the planning coordinator for the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal in Quebec, the largest French-teaching hospital in North America. The $2.5-billion hospital includes more than 770 beds and 3 million square feet, and Ionescu led bilingual user-group consultations and coordinated planning teams across multiple time zones. Additionally, Ionescu provided medical planning and design leadership for multiple healthcare facilities in and around Toronto, including the Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute.

As a previous Stantec employee in Toronto, Ionescu was a recipient of the firm’s 2010 Award of Excellence. She worked previously at CannonDesign, where she served as medical planning coordinator. Ionescu is a graduate of the Ion Mincu Institute of Architecture in Romania and was the recipient of a TEMPUS scholarship at University of Nottingham’s School of Architecture.
