LONG BEACH, Calif. — More than 50 staff members and administrators from Long Beach Memorial and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., came together on Monday, April 22 to take a “key” step toward the opening of the new $31-million Todd Cancer Pavilion at MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Memorial.
The keys for the new pavilion building were handed off from McCarthy to Long Beach Memorial, signifying that the construction portion of the building, which took a little over one year, is now complete. Long Beach Memorial will begin the process of moving in equipment and putting the finishing touches on the building, which is scheduled to be unveiled to the public on Saturday, June 29 and open to patients on Monday, July 15.
“Our journey began 13 years ago when Dr. Malcolm Todd, a prominent surgeon here in Long Beach, gave a lead gift for the creation of an outpatient cancer center. It was his belief that co-locating outpatient cancer services into one location was a huge benefit to patients and their families,” says Cathy Kopy, executive director, MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute. “This new facility is a symbol of Long Beach Memorial’s continued dedication and commitment to our cancer patients and their families.”
The new 65,000-square-foot pavilion is an exciting step forward for cancer treatment in Long Beach. It will be a dedicated outpatient cancer facility that will house the many cancer programs and cancer support services that TCI offers, giving patients access to all they need under one roof. The Todd Cancer Pavilion will enhance the strong reputation the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Memorial has in Southern California on cancer diagnosis, treatment and research.
