    K. Day 1SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — HGA Architects and Engineers has hired Kevin Day, AIA, as an associate vice president and lead project designer in the San Francisco office. He will focus on healthcare design.

“Kevin’s design passion is based on a holistic approach to the design of high-performance buildings — integrating sustainable design principles with considerations of aesthetics, operations and cost,” said Fredric Sherman, FAIA, vice president and director of HGA’s San Francisco office. “He has particular expertise designing healthcare facilities that address complex programming challenges, while recognizing the more intimate design details that support patients’ comfort and well-being. He will prove an asset as we continue to build our healthcare design practice in the Bay Area.”

Day has more than 20 years of experience designing large, complex projects for healthcare, commercial and institutional clients through all phases of development, from pre-design through construction documents. Before joining HGA, Day was a senior architect with Anshen + Allen (now Stantec Architecture) in San Francisco, where he worked with such clients as Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System, Sutter Health Mills-Peninsula Health Services, University of California San Francisco Medical Center and Intermountain Healthcare.

“Healthcare design provides us an opportunity to have a significant positive impact on people, as these facilities support some of the most important decisions made in a person’s life,” Day said. “As such, they deserve to be addressed at the highest levels of design thinking. HGA sets design standards for healthcare equal to the most important architecture of our age. Through the firm’s integrated architecture, engineering and planning expertise, HGA creates architecture that excels on multiple levels — from streamlining operations to meeting sustainable benchmarks or evoking such intangibles as calming the mind or lifting the spirit. I am excited to be part of a team that always strives to exceed their clients’ expectation.”

Day has a Master of Architecture from the University of California-Berkeley and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Michigan.  He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and a LEED Accredited Professional.
