McCarthy Construction ‘Goes Red’ at Jobsite
McCarthy organized the event and encouraged employees to wear red to show their support for the campaign. As part of the day’s activities, employees were treated to a “heart-healthy” lunch and presentation on cardiovascular health. McCarthy team members also set up booths and passed out informational pamphlets and heart healthy treats.
“At McCarthy, we are passionate about ‘building’ positive change in our communities in more ways than one,” said Angeles Garcia-Tapia, McCarthy’s senior project manager at Kaiser Oakland Medical Center. “In a male-dominated industry like ours, it is great to have the opportunity to shine a spotlight on critical issues of women’s health.”
This event is part of McCarthy’s company-wide community involvement program, “Heart Hats.” The program donates countless hours of in-kind services and monetary contributions to various charities and organizations each year. Since 2004, McCarthy has been a supporter of the AHA and has been actively involved in the organization’s Heart Walks across the country, including San Francisco and Sacramento.
“Heart disease is the number one killer of women, and many women don’t know this,” said Michael Bolen, McCarthy’s CEO and chairman of the Board of Directors. “We hope that by wearing red and getting the word out among our employees and business partners, that we can further increase awareness and support for this important cause. We can all be champions in the fight against heart disease and stroke by understanding our risks and working together to have healthier and more active lives.”
