Flannery photo RCHICAGO. Ill. – ASHE has announced a new addition to its advocacy team: Jonathan Flannery, MHSA, CHFM, FASHE. Flannery is joining ASHE’s professional staff as the senior associate director of advocacy. He will play a key role in the continued success of the society’s nationally recognized advocacy program, which works for better codes and standards affecting healthcare facilities.

Flannery has more than 20 years of healthcare engineering experience, including time in facility operations, in addition to being a longtime ASHE member and part of ASHE’s educational faculty. He comes from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Ark.

His past experience includes working as an architectural technician for the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz., where he learned the complexities of healthcare construction and project management. He was promoted to supervisor of maintenance and operations at the same facility, giving him the unique opportunity to see the challenging differences between design and construction and long-term maintenance. Flannery also worked as the facility manager of the Gallup Indian Medical Center, Indian Health Service.

Flannery has served on a number of committees as an ASHE representative, including the International Code Council’s Ad Hoc Committee on Healthcare, which is working to update codes and standards affecting healthcare facilities. He will be assisting ASHE Director of Codes and Standards Chad Beebe, AIA, SASHE, and will take the lead in many advocacy team projects.
