EwingCole Wins Interior Design Award
EwingCole announces that Bayhealth Medical Center’s Phase 2 Clinical Pavilion is the recipient of The Best Interior Design 2012 Award, given by the International Interior Design Association, PA, NJ and DE Chapter.
“The new Pavilion is an integral part of the firm’s master plan for the Dover campus,” said Howard Skoke, EwingCole’s project principal. “We are delighted that our ongoing work for Bayhealth has been honored by our professional peers.”
The awards were announced at a ceremony in the Arts Ballroom on the evening of June 21. In bestowing the award, the judges commented, “With fresh and innovative forms, this Bayhealth project creates a dynamic comfort level for both patient and staff. The project has an organic and fluid design that is exciting and innovative for a healthcare facility. It pushes the design envelope forward with an almost Stanley Kubrick-like vision of modern interior spaces.”
The Phase 2 Clinical Pavilion is part of an ongoing master plan expansion of the Kent Campus, located in Dover, Del. The 391,000-square-foot project connects to existing facilities and is also designed as a base for a future 7-story patient tower. The skylit entry canopy and lobby connects patients and visitors to the entire facility including a 400-car parking garage.
The pavilion includes a state-of-the-art emergency department with helipad, integrated oncology center, conference / training center, central sterile department and compounding pharmacy. A new Central Services Building segregates back of the house functions from patient flow and is designed for robotic transport of materials. The emergency department accommodates 60,000 visits per year and includes a dedicated imaging suite. Medical oncology provides 24 chemotherapy treatment spaces, with exam rooms, pharmacy, lab, and offices.
The mission of the International Interior Design Association’s PA/NJ/DE Chapter is to pursue rigorous and continuous advancement of the profession of interior design underscored by proven excellence and commitment to city center strength and ongoing professional development. The PA/NJ/DE Chapter was formed in 1998.
