GS&P Expands International Healthcare Portfolio with Projects in Ghana, Russia
TAMPA, Fla. — Gresham, Smith and Partners has recently been awarded contracts to design medical centers in Russia and Ghana. Both the St. James Medical Center in Accra, Ghana and The Russian American Medical Center in Tver, Russia will be acute-care facilities designed for construction on greenfield sites to support the growing healthcare needs within these two international communities.
“We are excited to expand our healthcare presence internationally and begin work on these two new acute care facilities in Russia and Ghana,” commented Frank Swaans, AIA, Healthcare principal, Gresham, Smith and Partners. “In both instances, our designs will strive to align and support the local cultures while also imparting evidence-based research and best practices related to facility design that have proven to drive positive staff efficiencies and satisfaction rates, improved patient outcomes and overall operational success for the health system.”
St. James Medical Center will consist of a greenfield 106-bed acute care hospital and medical office building to be constructed in Accra, the capital of Ghana, Africa. This full-service Medical Center will be Joint Commission International certified and is intended to introduce a quantum leap in the quality of healthcare available anywhere in the sub-Saharan region. The core of the medical staff will be provided by US-based Ghanaian physicians. GS&P will provide planning and design services through construction documents.
The Russian American Medical Center is an 84-bed acute care greenfield Hospital planned for construction in Tver, a city 100 miles north of Moscow, Russia. Owned by the Upper Volga Institute which is supported by the Gorbachev Foundation, this medical center will be an iconic facility setting a new healthcare standard along the 500 mile corridor between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The JCI certified hospital will serve the local population in addition to drawing in patients from a wide range including other European countries. In an effort to stem the current outflow of oncology and other patients to Israel and Germany, the medical center will offer Oncology services, General, Ortho and Neurosurgery and be supported by a state-of-the-art Imaging Center. GS&P will provide planning and design services through design development.
