ARLINGTON, Va. — Virginia Hospital Center announced an expansion of services offered at Virginia Hospital Center, to include Obstetrics for Kaiser Permanente’s members. Effective Dec. 1, 2012, Kaiser Permanente members will also be able to utilize Virginia Hospital Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, Nursery, Neonatology and Pediatric services, while receiving seamless, integrated care from Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group Obstetricians and Anesthesiologists.

Virginia Hospital Center recently completed a $10-million expansion of its Women & Infant Health Unit. Member now have access to this state-of-the-art unit, which added eight new all-private patient rooms bringing the total number of Women & Infant Health patient rooms to 50; four new Labor & Delivery Suites bringing the total number of Labor & Delivery Suites to 16; four new all-private triage rooms bringing the total number of triage rooms to six; three newly built state-of-the-art operating rooms for Cesarean birth; 16 Level IIIB Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; all-private suites; two Nurseries; two new Nurses Stations, and a leading-edge security system.

“Over the last three years, Kaiser Permanente has been impressed with the inpatient and outpatient services provided by Virginia Hospital Center, and are particularly pleased our Obstetricians and Anesthesiologists will be able to work together to deliver Obstetrical care for Kaiser Permanente members there,” said Douglas Cappiello, MD, Physician in Chief of Kaiser Permanente Northern Virginia. “We felt this was a natural and positive progression in our existing relationship, which adds value for Kaiser Permanente members.”

In 2011, Virginia Hospital Center delivered 4,437 babies. By expanding the relationship with Kaiser Permanente, the Hospital estimates a 14% increase to obstetric services, putting the unit around 80% of capacity. Since the recently completed renovation of the Women & Infant Health Unit, the Hospital is ready to care for and serve Kaiser Permanente members.

“We are very excited to extend our Obstetrics services to Kaiser Permanente members,” said Jim Cole, -president and CEO at Virginia Hospital Center. “We share a common goal to provide the safest and very best care to all patients and look forward to welcoming Kaiser Permanente members to our mother and baby unit.”
