BOSTON, Mass. — The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has been shortlisted for the Best Hospital Design Award in the 2012 Hospital Build & Infrastructure Awards. The annual awards program showcases exemplary design in the healthcare field and takes place in conjunction with the Hospital Build Conference in Dubai, UAE. All four finalists’ projects in this category will be on display at the conference with the announcement of the winner on June 4.
The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre is one of the Middle East’s leading medical institutions, known for providing the highest level of specialized healthcare in an integrated education and research setting. To maintain this world-class reputation, Cannon Design initially created an overall campus master plan and then designed a four building expansion that will set the standard that is to become the model for the Kingdom.
The new facilities include the King Abdullah Center for Cancer and Liver Diseases, the National Biotechnology Center, The Royal Wing and the Emergency Medical Services Building, as well as the design for a powerhouse and service tunnel system to upgrade the Centre’s infrastructure.
