MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Mortenson Construction has been selected by Sanford Health to build the new Sanford Fargo Medical Center in Fargo, N.D. Mortenson is partnering with Nor-Son, Inc. of Baxter, Minn., on the $340-million project. Work on the new medical center will begin in summer of 2012 with occupancy planned for 2016.

The new Sanford Fargo Medical Center will be the premier healthcare facility in the upper Midwest and the largest in North Dakota. It will feature a nine-story medical center with 460 inpatient beds, 32 OR suites, 12 IR/Cath labs, and a 51 bay emergency department.

A heliport, 200,000 sq. ft. clinic, and support spaces will be included as well. The medical center will be approximately 1.2 million sq. ft. with a separate Energy Center/Loading Dock building.

The healthcare facility will serve the Red River Valley community and surrounding region. Mortenson and Nor-Son will maximize the involvement of local subcontractors and trades people for the project, and estimate the project will employ more than 600 trades people during the peak of construction.

“We are honored to be selected to build such a landmark healthcare facility,” said Paul Cossette, senior vice president at Mortenson.  “It will generate substantial economic activity in the region during construction and it will be a world class facility for the community once it’s complete.”

Mortenson has built 42 projects in North Dakota since 1976, most recently completing the $37 million Jamestown Replacement Hospital in Jamestown, N.D. Nor-Son is currently working on the Sanford Fargo Downtown Campus as Construction Manager of the $4 million Roger Maris Cancer Center Addition and Remodel project and the $40 million Sanford Thief River Falls Medical Center in Thief River Falls, Minn.  AECOM will serve as the architectural and design partner on the project.
