CINCINNATI, Ohio — Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center will build a new 15-story facility on its Burnet campus. This new clinical sciences building will be located along Sabin Way, adjacent to and physically integrated with the research building that Cincinnati Children’s opened in 2007.

“Expanding our research space is essential to supporting our world-class faculty investigators,” said Arnold Strauss, MD, director of the Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation. “These investigators are developing and evaluating breakthrough discoveries for patients. They work closely with clinical staff to apply those discoveries to improving the health of children here and throughout the world.”

Strauss added that the building will serve as a bridge that joins research and patient care. “The new clinical sciences building will create a physical link between the discoveries in our current research facility and their application to patient care in our clinical locations,” he said.
Total cost of the project is estimated at $180 million and will be financed through a combination of operating cash and investments, future operating cash flows and philanthropy.

The new building will add approximately 425,000-square-feet of space and house new laboratories; an outpatient clinic and imaging facility for clinical trials and research; office space for faculty and staff performing clinical research; and supporting infrastructure.

Construction is scheduled to begin in June with completion in the summer of 2015. The architects for the project are GBBN, GPR and HDR. Messer Construction is the builder.

“This new space will enable us to attract and retain more of the world’s top-notch researchers, innovators and clinicians who want to be at the leading edge of discovery,” said Michael Fisher, president and CEO of Cincinnati Children’s.
