Jefferson Healthcare recently opened its new Emergency and Specialty Services building in Port Townsend, Washington. The building is the first major capital project for Jefferson Healthcare since the 1995 expansion of the inpatient medical services.

Construction began on the new 52,900-square-foot building in May 2015, and is a patient-focused expansion for Jefferson Healthcare’s emergency care and outpatient services.

The building provides a centralized location with better access to key outpatient services, such as emergency services, oncology, orthopedics, cardiology, lab draw and select diagnostic imaging. The building project has some unique features including placement of cancer treatment spaces on the third floor that face Puget Sound and mountains, a green roof of sedums that can be seen from the second and third floors and raised garden beds for the dietary team to grow herbs for use in café meals.

The project also included completing extensive exterior improvements to three parking lots using pervious pavement, increasing the number of ADA stalls, adding new accessible ramps, energy-efficient LED outdoor lighting, a new main entrance drop-off curb and improved sidewalks and roads.

The Emergency and Specialty Services building was designed by Collins Woerman and constructed by Aldrich & Associates Inc.
