    Baskervill Welcomes John Michael Currie as Vice President of Healthcare Group

    John_CurrieRICHMOND, Va. –Baskervill recently welcomed John Michael Currie, architect and fellow, Royal Society for Public Health, as vice president of its healthcare group.


    With more than 35 years of experience dedicated exclusively to healthcare facility planning, programming, and design, Currie is responsible for over 200 healthcare facilities across the United States and throughout the world, including Canada, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. His work ranges from community hospitals to academic medical centers, specialty hospitals, and cancer care facilities, among others.

    He is consistently ranked among the leading experts in the nation on the development of healthcare facilities, and his critically acclaimed book on the history of healthcare architecture, The Fourth Factor, was published by the American Institute of Architects Press in 2007. It received the 2010 AIA Grassroots Excellence Award.

    Currie also has nearly 40 years of experience in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching at five universities. He currently sits on the Advisory Council for the Health Care Architecture graduate program at Clemson University, in addition to his teaching role at John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

    He received a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool in England. An alumnus of Clemson University, he received both a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and a Master in Architecture before beginning his career in 1973. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Healthcare Engineering, the Royal Society for Public Health, the American Association of Medical Administrators and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.
