NEWPORT BEACH AND SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — TAYLOR, an architectural and interior design practice focused exclusively on healthcare, has opened a new office in San Francisco, Calif. with Douglas Childs, AIA, FACHA, leading the studio team. The office provides a platform that expands and enhances services for TAYLOR’s clients in Northern and Southern California and creates the opportunity to service new clients.
Childs, a board-certified healthcare architect and nationally recognized leader in healthcare design, has more than 30 years of experience with 22 years dedicated to healthcare architecture. He brings with him a dynamic group of individuals that has been providing architectural services to clients including Stanford Hospital, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the University California, San Francisco. Joining Childs are Amy Savadge, Claudia Latchman, AIA, LEED AP, Jason Ng and Matt Johnson, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP.
Clients across California will benefit from the exceptional combination of talent and resources resident in the two offices. Yet, it is the shared passion to improve healthcare architecture in ways that encourage healing and health that defines the expanded team.

Childs has dedicated his time with the California Health Facilities Forum, an annual symposium established by the American College of Healthcare Architects bringing together health-system providers, policymakers, architects and other industry professionals. In its third year, Childs has been instrumental in organizing forum topics and speakers since the event’s inception.
This year, the ACHA partnered with the American Institute of Architects California Council, bringing additional leadership and support to the event. This year’s topic, “Impact of the Affordable Care Act on Facilities and Technology,” afforded speakers and panelists the opportunity to address strategies, ideas and trends on the theme.
For his efforts, Childs was awarded a Presidential Citation from the American Institute of Architects California Council. The Presidential Citation honors individuals for exceptional accomplishments and recognizes significant leaders of the architectural profession. The AIACC recognized his “willingness to collaborate with the architectural profession in California and co-sponsor this important event, which advanced the critical conversation about the future of healthcare delivery in California.”
A graduate of Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo, Childs is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Architects, is chair of the ACHA Next Practices Committee and serves on its Board of Regents.
