CHICAGO, Ill. – The CRTKL-designed Presence Center for Advanced Care, has won first place in the Healthcare category of the 2016 American Society of Interior Designers Illinois Design Excellence Awards. The ASID Design Excellence Awards strives to advance the interior design profession and, in the process, to demonstrate and celebrate the power of design to positively change people’s lives.

“The CallisonRTKL interior design team worked collaboratively with executive leadership to develop a healing environment that reflected the center’s unique setting adjacent to Lincoln Park and Lake Michigan,” said Roberta Luskin-Hawk, president and CEO of Presence Saint Joseph Hospital. “They created a soothing atmosphere in the cancer center, an energetic physical rehabilitation center and a reassuring environment in the outpatient surgical waiting room.”

The PCAC is a patient-focused, 380,000-square-foot ambulatory care center designed to provide the community with easy access to outpatient services and deliver coordinated care by consolidating services. As a one-stop destination center for health and wellness, the PCAC is defining a new sustainable model for delivering comfort and convenience in the heart of a vibrant Chicago neighborhood.

In order to reduce stress and promote healing in patients, nature-inspired spaces such as bamboo materials and light finishes are incorporated in the interior design. The abundance of glass allows nature to be brought in throughout the interior from exterior views of Lake Michigan and Lincoln Park, and rooftop gardens improve the experience within.
