DALLAS, Texas — Baylor Medical Center at Uptown has received LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The 63,000-square-foot specialty hospital is also the first hospital built under the Dallas Green Building Ordinance.
One of the challenges associated with Energy and Atmosphere Credit 1 involved modeling a system that was more complicated than the software would allow, while presenting it as clearly as possible for LEED review. There were also challenges related to indoor ventilation that required complex adjustments of air balances and minimum airflow settings.
Baylor Medical Center at Uptown (formerly known as Mary Shiels Hospital) is a specialty hospital with a focus on surgical, orthopedic, neuroscience, bariatric and pain management services. The hospital includes six operating rooms, a pain management procedure room, twenty-four private patient rooms, emergency treatment services and a state-of-the-art imaging center with MRI, RAD and CT technologies. Twenty-five parking spaces have been placed under the building.
Located on a triangular, 1.24-acre urban site, the sleekly styled hospital has accented sliver metal panels, multi-tone glass and precast concrete panel walls. The interior environment is much like that of a boutique hotel with floor-to-ceiling windows in patient care areas— including patient rooms, PACU, recovery, family dining and waiting areas.
