Winchester, Mass. – Winchester Hospital recently received three major national healthcare awards, ranking it as one of the top healthcare organizations among more than 4,000 hospitals in the country.
Thomson Reuters has announced that Winchester Hospital is a 100 Top Hospitals award winner, which recognizes the top acute care hospitals in the nation. Winchester Hospital received this national award for providing care that is safe, effective and patient-centered. Hospitals are evaluated on clinical outcomes, clinical process, extended patient outcomes, efficiency, hospital financial health and consumer assessment of care.
Additionally, Winchester Hospital has achieved two prestigious awards from HealthGrades®, the leading independent healthcare ratings organization: the 2011 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ and – for the third year in a row – the 2010/2011 HealthGrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award™. The patient safety award is based on Medicare data collected on 13 patient safety indicators. The patient experience award is based on Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) scores compiled by the Medicare program based on patient survey data. The HealthGrades awards are given to hospitals performing in the top 5 percent nationally.
Winchester Hospital is the only community hospital in Massachusetts to achieve both HealthGrades designations and the Thomson Reuters award in 2011. The only other hospitals in Massachusetts to receive these three awards are Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
“Our Winchester Hospital community realizes that we take on a special responsibility when a patient entrusts us with their care,” said Kevin Smith, president and chief executive officer of Winchester Hospital. “We appreciate these awards because they provide external validation that we have earned that trust. Now we have to go back to work and make sure we earn it for tomorrow’s patients, and for the next day’s patients. This is an ongoing process of improving what we do and how we do it.”
