LOS ANGELES, Calif. — HDR, as executive architect on the Martin Luther King Outpatient Center project in Los Angeles, California, was recognized on June 18 at the 45th Annual Los Angeles Architectural Awards during a gala luncheon hosted by the Los Angeles Business Council.

More than 40 world-class projects from a diverse spectrum of the architectural field were celebrated at the Beverly Hilton Hotel for their design excellence and community impact.

A model for culturally sensitive healthcare, the Martin Luther King Jr. Outpatient Center is a Design-Build collaboration with design architect HMC Architects and McCarthy Building Companies. Part of a transformative and phased county program to upgrade existing facilities on the 38-acre MLK Medical Center campus, the new 132,550-square-foot, LEED Gold-designed outpatient facility houses an ambulatory surgery center, five operating rooms, dentistry, oncology, women’s services and physical and occupational therapy services.

OSHPD-3-compliant, the outpatient center is designed to help reestablish the campus as a healthcare leader in the community. Located adjacent to the hospital, the high-tech steel and glass outpatient center fits seamlessly within the context of the existing campus. Utilizing a whole-person approach to patient care, the safe and accessible outpatient center reflects the bright new vision for the medical “village.”
