Nashville-based Hart Freeland Roberts (HFR Design) Architects and Engineers has been awarded a contract by WellStar Health System to provide functional programming and campus master planning support services for the WellStar Acworth Health Park planned for Acworth, Ga., located in Northwest Metro Atlanta. The WellStar Health Park initiative brings primary care and specialty care practices, outpatient services, laboratory, diagnostic testing and other community-focused health and wellness programs into the neighborhoods and away from the main hospital campus.

Heading the project for HFR Design will be James G. Easter, Jr., FAAMA, a senior vice president and director of the firm’s Planning Division, who will serve as principal in charge. Providing architectural and engineering services for the project will be CDH Partners Inc., a Marietta, Ga.-based A/E firm. Brasfield and Gorrie LLC will be the general contractor.

WellStar Health System is a not-for-profit organization based in the Atlanta suburb of Marietta. WellStar includes Cobb, Douglas, Kennestone, Paulding and Windy Hill hospitals; WellStar Medical Group; Urgent Care Centers; Imaging Centers; Health Place; Homecare; Hospice; Atherton Place; Paulding Nursing Center; and WellStar Foundation.

The approximately $25 million project (phase 1 only), with a total campus of about 65,000 to 70,000 square feet, will include a medical office building; offices for family, internal medicine, OB/GYB, and pediatrics practices; urgent care center; imaging/lab/diagnostics center; cardiology, general surgery, orthopedic, pulmonary and ENT specialists; sleep center; retail pharmacy; community education/wellness center and common areas.

“This is an exciting project for HFR Design,” said principal-in-charge Jim Easter. “We have provided planning services for WellStar at some of its other campuses, and we look forward to another successful project for this world-class health services provider. They are truly trend-setters in the healthcare industry.”

HFR Design is a 100-year-old architectural and engineering firm offering architectural design, healthcare master planning and programming, market research, interior design, civil and structural engineering, environmental engineering, project management, office furniture and equipment programming and space planning. The firm serves the healthcare, education, municipal/civic, commercial/retail, industrial, parks/recreation, religious, corrections, transportation and environmental markets nationwide from offices in Nashville, Kansas City, Louisville and Jackson, Tenn.
