November marks a major milestone in the transformation of the new Intermountain St. Vincent Regional Hospital project, as the skyline begins to change with the arrival of several mobile crawler cranes.

Located in Billings, Montana, the public can expect to see dramatic progress as the hospital’s structural spine and steel framing take shape over the coming months. During this next phase of construction, elevator shafts are assembled with pre-cast concrete panels, forming the structural backbone of the hospital. Structural steel installation begins this month and will continue for the next 18 months, culminating in a topping off event anticipated in February 2027.

The 14-floor, 737,000 square-foot facility is being built at 27th Street and 12th Avenue North, just east of the current hospital. When completed in 2029, the new hospital will replace the current facility, with all existing services transferring to the new location.

The new hospital will feature 243 patient beds, with space for 16 additional beds. All rooms are universal and convertible to ICU-level care, allowing the hospital to respond to changing demands and future pandemics. Operating rooms are designed for adaptability, supporting the latest and future developments in robotic surgical technology, and will be fully integrated for efficient care. The project team includes Layton Construction and HDR. Learn more here.
