After years of purposeful design, hard work and passionate community support, Compass Health celebrated the grand opening of the Marc Healing Center — Everett, Washington’s newest facility for intensive behavioral health services.

The 70,000-square-foot building houses a 16-bed evaluation and treatment unit, a 16-bed crisis triage center, intensive outpatient behavioral health services, an on-site pharmacy and offices for crisis prevention, outreach and community engagement teams.

Design elements draw from the healing power of nature. Room layouts maximize natural light and the facility offers access to secure outdoor spaces. The center’s “H” shape, appearing as two smaller structures rather than an imposing institutional facility, allows for upper-level courtyards and access to natural light and views of the surrounding landscape. A large cantilever frames one of two obvious entrances, making the entry point beautiful and approachable, removing some of the stigma of seeking care. Materials such as adobe-toned cladding and wood finishes soften the building’s scale.

The project team included Lotus Development Partners, finance, development and construction manager; BNBuilders, general contractor; Ankrom Moisan Architects, project architect; KPFF, structural engineer; Harmsen, civil engineer; Bush Roed Hitchings, surveyor; Sider + Byers, mechanical and electrical engineer; SiteWorkshop, landscape design; RDH, envelope consultant and RWDI, LEED consultant.

The Marc Healing Center is the second completed phase of Compass Health’s Broadway Campus Redevelopment Project: a three-phase initiative to bring together a full continuum of behavioral health care, primary health care and permanent supportive housing services on a single city block. Andy’s Place, phase one, is an 82-unit housing facility coupled with support services for people with chronic behavioral health challenges. The final phase of the project, still in early planning stages, is intended to house behavioral health services, a primary healthcare clinic, residential units and space for Compass Health administrative offices.
