Group PMX, owner’s rep for the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, recently announced a key milestone in the construction of the new Critical Care Tower at WMC’s Valhalla campus: On Oct. 18, the hospital will activate permanent emergency generators, an important infrastructure upgrade that will ensure uninterrupted power for the existing hospital and the new six-story, 162,000-square-foot tower. Turner Construction Company is serving as the project’s general contractor; HDR is the tower’s architect.
The generator activation is part of a larger effort to replace four aging hospital generators with three new high-capacity 2500 KW units, including two generators dedicated to the existing hospital and one serving the new tower. This milestone lays critical groundwork for the tower’s future opening while safeguarding operations.
When complete in the fourth quarter of 2026, the Critical Care Tower, also called the “Tower to Heal,” will feature 128 private patient rooms designed to accommodate intensive care and medical-surgical needs, including SICU, CCU, and Neuro ICU, as well as step-down care. With seamless connectivity to the main hospital and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, the facility will enhance efficiency, patient privacy and adaptability to meet future demands.
