A groundbreaking ceremony was held for White Plains Hospital’s largest campus transformation project: a 10-story, approximately 500,000-square-foot expansion that will nearly double the size of the hospital when it opens in 2028.
Located in White Plains, New York, the expansion will connect with the existing hospital on the main floor, emergency department and operating room levels. A total of 240 additional, private, single-bed inpatient rooms, 144 of which will open in 2028, will increase the hospital’s total number of licensed inpatient beds from 292 to 436. The project will also create a dedicated operating room floor that will have space for 10 additional ORs equipped with the latest technology. A new emergency department will more than double the size of its current ED space. It will include a dedicated driveway for drop-off and entering the facility, as well as expanded ambulance bays.
The expansion is being designed by Payette; Suffolk serves as the construction manager. Suffolk’s project team is leveraging advanced construction technology on the project, including a proprietary technology that uses AI to track steel use and progress on projects, from the design phase through construction completion. Handheld scanners are capturing high-quality data that is integrated into a cloud-based collaboration platform.
The project, which will cost an estimated $750 million, will be financed through a combination of a $500-million Dormitory Authority of the State of New York bond, philanthropy and equity from operating expenses.
