Methodist Hospital Westover Hills is a new 54-bed acute-care hospital in San Antonio, Texas. The hospital elevates the care available to underserved West San Antonio with a design focused on tranquility and the fundamental link between nature and healing. Inspired by the flora and fauna of central Texas, the building is woven into the surrounding hill country.
Rising from the landscape at the intersection of two major highways, this “hospital on a hill” embraces the site’s organic features. Visitors are transported from city stress to serene nature as they approach along a path of carefully undisturbed native landscaping. Inside, strategic design choices give the hospital the sophistication of high-end architecture. Rather than focusing entirely on premium finishes, the design team selectively installed texture and visual interest to guide an intuitive patient and visitor journey.
The hospital was conceived with growth and flexibility in mind. The design offers 50,000 square feet of shell space and is ready for immediate expansion. The project team included Perkins&Will and JE Dunn.
