A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for Florida’s first behavioral health teaching hospital, TGH Behavioral Health Hospital. Located in Tampa, it addresses the rising demand for specialized inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services in the community. The 83,000-square-foot facility features 96 inpatient beds and was developed in collaboration with Tampa General Hospital and Lifepoint Health.
Thoughtfully designed to create a healing and supportive environment for patients, services within the facility offer compassionate treatment to children, adolescents, adults and seniors experiencing behavior and mental health conditions, especially those with complex conditions. Key features include semi-private rooms to enhance comfort and privacy, therapeutic outdoor spaces to promote relaxation and recovery, group therapy areas designed for collaboration and connection and secure, modern spaces that prioritize patient and staff safety.
As Florida’s first behavioral health teaching hospital, the facility plays a vital role in the growing Tampa Medical and Research District. Through a partnership with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences in the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, it serves as a hub for advanced psychiatric care and medical education. The project team included Anchor Health Properties, Stengel-Hill Architecture and JE Dunn Construction.
