A groundbreaking ceremony kicked off the first phase of construction for a planned $3-billion expansion for Cooper University Health Care in Camden, New Jersey. The first phase of the project includes a 10-story, 335,000-square-foot patient tower (Tower A), which will tie directly into the neighboring Roberts and Kelemen Pavilions and directly connect to the MD Anderson Cancer Center via a new pedestrian bridge. Tower A is slated for completion by 2028.
Key features include:
- 125 acuity-adaptable private rooms incorporating advanced technology
- Expanded women’s services featuring labor and delivery rooms and new neonatal intensive care unit
- Additional operating rooms
- Education and research spaces
- Emergency preparedness infrastructure, including a medical command center to serve the region
The project will also involve critical upgrades to a central utility plant and a new below-grade basement that will provide mechanical and other back-of-house support. The project team includes O’Donnell & Naccarato, Hammes, HKS, Array Architects, Torcon and P. Agnes.
