Artwork at 2 Healthcare Facilities Take Spotlight in NOAH Arts in Health Awards
The National Organization for Arts in Health announced this year’s winners of its Cam Busch NOAH Arts in Health Awards. The awards were presented at the University of Houston Student Center during the organization’s conference, NOAHCON 24. The annual awards are open to NOAH members: individual artists working in all disciplines, or arts in health programs or projects in a healthcare facility or community setting.
Four programs were recognized with first place awards and six received honorable mentions in the Arts Advancing Social Justice, Arts Building Resilience, Arts for Innovation and Arts Transforming Environments categories. First place winners received $500 and free registration to NOAH’s annual conference. In the Arts Transforming Environments category, artwork at two healthcare facilities were honored:
First Place Winner: The MetroHealth Glick Center Art Collection
The Glick Center is a new 11-floor hospital that anchors MetroHealth’s main campus in Cleveland’s Clark-Fulton neighborhood in Ohio. The building is home to more than 600 pieces of unique art, including murals and photography commissioned for the building. Seventy percent of the artwork was created by artists from Greater Cleveland, an arrangement made possible through a partnership with LAND Studio.
Honorable Mention: The HOPE Sculpture at Inova Schar Cancer Institute
The artwork in this installation was created by Inova Schar Cancer Institute patients, caregivers, staff and artists working with Smith Center for Healing and the Arts’ Artist-in-Residence Program. Virginia sculptor Jeff Hall created the sculptural letters and adhered the work to the letters. The installation was donated by local artist and philanthropist Diane Canney.
