Approximately 300 people gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony and dedication of the soon to come facilities for South Georgia Media Center’s main campus expansion, marking the largest and most significant project in the health system’s history.

Located in Valdosta, Georgia, notable improvements included in the $150-million investment are a Women and Infants Tower with a dedicated entrance, a new emergency department and trauma center and the relocation of the main entrance.

The construction is expected to take approximately two years to complete and will occur in front of the current Dasher Heart Center and emergency department. Project partners include Goodwyn Mills Cawood, Hoar Construction and Adams Management Services.

    Highlights of the project include:

    • Women and Infants Patient Tower: A signature design within the proposed new patient tower is a modern and aesthetically pleasing birthing center accentuated by spacious settings to create the most efficient, convenient and comfortable birthing experience possible. The tower will include a dedicated entrance, a new neonatal intensive care unit and other spaces unique to women’s healthcare.
    • Emergency and trauma: The new main campus emergency department will include additional patient rooms and space to accommodate the growing demand from the region. Its design will include trauma-ready rooms equipped to handle some of the most comprehensive trauma cases and supporting technology.
    • Campus redesign: Designed to enhance patient access, beautify the campus and improve wayfinding, the new three-story tower will also reorient the main entrance to provide ease of access and convenience to expanded services.
