Beth Israel Lahey Health’s new Center for Advanced Heart Failure & Cardiomyopathy Care has opened at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. The project, an outpatient clinic, involved a full-gut renovation of approximately 11,000 square feet on BIDMC’s West Campus.

The clinic consists of 10 exam rooms, and several specialized spaces for performing stress tests, echocardiograms, ultrasounds and two infusion treatment rooms specific to the care of heart failure patients. Staff spaces balance off-stage areas to allow for respite and focus, with on-stage open nurse stations and carefully positioned sightlines.

The design incorporates BIDMC’s design standards with shades of blue, purple and beige. The waiting area features a contemporary ceiling feature. The organically shaped and naturally patterned lighting was inspired by the fractal patterns and shadows found with the leaves of forest canopies, immediately creating a sense of comfort and reduction in stress. The project team included HGA, Fitzemeyer & Tocci Associates, Souza True & Partners and Suffolk Construction.
