$900M Expansion Underway at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center

Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center officials recently gathered with local leaders and partners to hold a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off a campus expansion project that will nearly double the size of the hospital and transform care delivery in northeastern Pennsylvania.

The almost $900-million expansion and renovation will build a new 11-story patient tower and increase the medical center’s capacity for emergency medicine, critical care, trauma care, surgical services and advanced cardiovascular programs. Encompassing about 600,000 square feet, the project will put Geisinger Wyoming Valley’s capabilities on par with large academic medical centers in Philadelphia, New York and other major metropolitan areas.

The first phase of the project, encompassing the bed tower and adjacent base that expands and renovates the ER, is expected to be completed in 2028. Renovations to other areas of the medical center will continue through 2030. The project team includes FCA and Turner Construction.
