A renovation and expansion of the emergency department at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City is being honored as “Project of the Year Award – Under $50M” from the Association of Medical Facility Professionals.
The award, presented to the project team at AMFP NYC’s 2023 Awards Gala Dinner, highlights an outstanding project completed in the New York City metro region within the last three years. The project team includes E4H Environments for Health Architecture, Hunter Roberts Construction Group and Vanderweil Engineers.
The project, which began in 2020 and slated for completion in 2024, will modernize the hospital’s 30-year-old emergency department. The first project phase created a 7,500-square-foot rapid medical evaluation unit to identify and treat lower-acuity patients. Additional phases will involve consolidating administrative spaces to create more space for patient treatment and expanding and upgrading equipment in existing CT/X-ray rooms. Treatment areas within the pediatric emergency department was also upgraded and expanded. The overall additions and renovations will allow the ED to serve twice as many patients and provide an improved care experience for the 100,000 people that visit each year.
