The American Society of Plumbing Engineers is offering its MedGas Workshop both online and in-person. ASPE is partnering with MedGasCards.com to distribute the online workshop on demand, and the in-person workshop is held four times a year at training facilities across the United States.
Both the online and in-person options fulfill the training requirements to sit for the ASSE 6060: Medical Gas Systems Designer exam. The ASSE 6060 professional certification is being considered as a requirement for medical gas system designers in the 2024 edition of NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code as follows:
Medical gas and vacuum systems shall be designed by one of the following:
- A party technically competent and experienced in the field of medical gas and vacuum system design and meeting the requirements of ASSE/IAPMO/ANSI 6060: Professional Qualifications Standard for Medical Gas Systems Designers.
- A party deemed technically competent through other qualification(s) deemed sufficient by the health care facility’s governing body.
The second draft of NFPA 99-2024 was approved at the June 2023 NFPA Annual Conference, with a final review and approval to be completed by the NFPA Standards Council in August 2023 prior to issuance.
