The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials is accepting applications and seeking technical experts to participate on a task group to address legionella exposure risk to the public posed by mechanical equipment. The deadline to apply is March 1.
The scope of the Legionella Task Group is to address concerns pertaining to the control and intervention of legionella associated with mechanical systems and equipment, including:
- Verify correlations between temperature, concentration limits and legionella growth potential
- Verify remediation actions and water treatment plans
- Review other factors for legionella growth potential including, but not limited to, water sources, circulation rates, disinfection residual, and piping materials
- Identify additional methods of chemical and non-chemical treatment methods
- Correlate with existing industry standards
The task group recommendations will be forwarded to the Uniform Mechanical Code Technical Committee for consideration in the development of the 2027 edition of the UMC.
Task group members will participate via conference call or web meeting, provide their perspective on the code, and assist in drafting recommendations for action by the UMC Technical Committee’s consideration. Applicants are not required to be members of the UMC Technical Committee.
