The American Society for Health Care Engineering of the American Hospital has welcomed two senior associate directors to its advocacy team.
Leah Hummel is joining ASHE as senior associate director — advocacy. Her 21-year career includes roles as a hospital facility architect and a construction projects and plans reviewer/construction inspector. Most recently, she worked for The Joint Commission, starting out as a Life Safety Code surveyor and then as an engineer with the Standards Interpretation Group. Hummel is a licensed architect in North Dakota and Minnesota. She has been an ASHE member since 2008, and maintains certification as both a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager and Certified Healthcare Constructor.
Kara Brooks, now in her fifth year with the ASHE team, has been promoted to senior associate director of sustainability. Prior to her promotion, she served as ASHE’s sustainability program manager. In her new role, she directs strategic leadership, advocacy and program development for the association’s sustainability initiatives. Brooks has more than 20 years of environmental sustainability and energy engineering experience. She serves on numerous national panels and committees, developing the codes and standards for the healthcare built environment.
