Momentum Building for Global Healthcare Energy Awards

Created by the International Federation of Healthcare Engineering, with support from the Association of Medical Facility Professionals and Mazzetti, the Global Healthcare Energy Awards will honor healthcare organizations that reduce their energy consumption by 5% or more between 2019 and 2021. Winners will be announced at IFHE’s Annual Congress slated for September 2022 in Toronto. The deadline to provide data is April 30, 2022.

There’s no formal application required. Healthcare organizations simply upload baseline and current-year performance data to M+ Energy, a non-proprietary data management and visualization tool created by Mazzetti’s in-house software development studio. The tool is free and available to use outside of the awards process.

To participate, enter data manually, upload spreadsheets or connect through the Energy Star Portfolio Manager.

“We wanted to make the process as easy as possible and provide a new way for facilities to gain value from their available energy data,” says Walt Vernon, P.E., Mazzetti CEO, AMFP vice president and IFHE executive committee member.

To date, more than 20 U.S. and Canadian healthcare organizations are submitting data, according to Shannon Bunsen, WELL AP, Mazzetti sustainability project manager.

“Our industry’s mission to improve human health and well-being means taking every possible step to reduce our climate impact,” says Ramé Hemstreet, vice president for operations and chief energy officer at Kaiser Permanente. “The Global Healthcare Energy Awards offer organizations a valuable way to track and benchmark efforts as we strive toward improved sustainability.”
