Janet Dugan Earns Top Credential for Individual Achievement in Person-Centered Care

Janet Dugan, principal at NBBJ, has become a Planetree Fellow in Person-Centered Care. Dugan was one of 54 individuals overall this year to earn the FPCC credential, which recognizes individuals’ efforts to expand their knowledge of person-centered care and then apply that knowledge to make healthcare better.

The Fellows program is operated by Planetree International, an person-centered care advocacy and standard setting organization. The program is based on the principles of person-centered care, an approach to healthcare delivery that emphasizes compassion, partnership, access and inclusion as critical elements of quality and safety. Earlier this year, Dugan submitted an application detailing how she has applied these person-centered care principles in her role at NBBJ.

To earn the credential, Dugan had to provide evidence of a range of activities in each of three areas:

• Learning: Continuous learning to inform one’s professional pursuits and passions related to person-centered care.
• Doing: Practical application of person-centered care knowledge in the field. This includes working directly with patients and their family members. It also involves improvement activities and community service.
• Sharing: Contributing to the person-centered care evidence base through presentations, publication and scholarship.
