The Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute is accepting entries through Feb. 17 for its annual awards program, which acknowledges outstanding achievement in creative design, technical innovation and best practices in the use of cold-formed steel, including on healthcare projects, and recognizes individuals who have volunteered significant time and talent to the cold-formed steel industry.

This year’s awards will be presented in three categories: Projects/Design Excellence, Creative Detail and the John P. Matsen Award for Distinguished Service. Winners will be announced at the 2020 CFSEI Expo, which will be held May 19-20, in Tampa, Florida.

The 2020 CFSEI Awards Program is seeking entries in these categories:

    • Category 1 – Projects/Design Excellence: The award recognizes projects that exemplify excellence in the structural design of new or renovated structures utilizing cold-formed steel products. Entries will be judged on demonstrated excellence and achievement in the use of cold-formed steel based on design creativity, technical innovation and overall project excellence in cold-formed steel utilization. Awards will be presented at the discretion of the awards committee regardless of the total number of projects submitted.
    • Category 2 – Creative Detail: This award recognizes any cold-formed steel framing detail that exemplifies creativity or ingenuity to solve a design challenge. Entries will be judged on demonstrated excellence and achievement in the use of cold-formed steel based on design creativity, ingenuity and design complexity. Awards will be presented for an eligible engineered detail at the discretion of the awards committee regardless of the total number of entries submitted.
    • Category 3 – John P. Matsen Award for Distinguished Service: The award recognizes the contributions of an individual who has volunteered significant time, talent and resources to the cold-formed steel industry. Entries will be judged on the resumes of the nominated individuals and the testimony of the nominators on how the individuals advanced cold-formed steel framing in the marketplace. One award will be presented.

The rules of eligibility and entry instructions for the 2020 CFSEI Awards Program are available on the CFSEI website at https://www.cfsei.org/2020cfseiawardsprogram.
