Mark Chen, AIA, has joined Leo A Daly to lead the firm’s Atlanta, Georgia design studio as vice president and managing principal. In this role, he oversees design, operations and business strategy for the local studio, leveraging talent across the global planning, architecture, engineering and interiors firm.
Chen has 37 years of experience in the master planning and design of facilities in the U.S., Europe and China, including mixed-use, healthcare and education projects. He has won numerous awards for his design work, including awards from The American Institute of Architects, the U.S. Air Force and the Harvard Architectural Forum. He has secured major projects including the Harrell Medical Education Building at the University of Florida and the master plan for the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Throughout his career, Chen has maintained a connection to academia. As an adjunct visiting professor at Syracuse University and at the New York Institute of Technology, he taught design studio, thesis studio and professional practice. He has been a guest critic at Cornell University, Rhode Island School of Design, Harvard University and Georgia Tech.
He joins Leo A Daly from HDR, where he served as design principal for the Atlanta and Charlotte, North Carolina offices. Previously, he was director of design and senior vice president of Heery International.
