Children’s Hospital Colorado’s Ribbon Cutting Celebrates Region’s 1st Pediatric Hospital
Nearly 400 people gathered to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the new Children’s Hospital Colorado, Colorado Springs. Designed by FKP Architects and built by GE Johnson Construction Co., the project team created a unique program called Kid of the Quarter to involve patient ambassadors for Children’s Hospital Colorado in the construction of the new hospital. The very first Kid of the Quarter, Lauren Schwamb, 13, served as one of the emcees for the ribbon cutting event.
The 294,000-square-foot, 111-bed facility will serve as southern Colorado’s first pediatric-only hospital. It is connected to UCHealth Memorial North in Colorado Springs via a pedestrian bridge. The modern, high-tech facility includes 33 exam rooms, along with six behavioral health rooms, neonatal and pediatric intensive care rooms, a sleep study lab, an epilepsy monitoring unit and the region’s first operating rooms built just for kids.
