HMC Architects Appoints International Designer to Los Angeles Studio

HMC Architects has charged designer Raymond Pan, AIA, LEED AP, to lead a new design direction to elevate the firm’s design and innovation expertise and—under this new model—offer clients a new way of working together.

The move creates a “design-lab” environment within a firm, allowing HMC to explore design ideas through multidisciplinary collaboration that are distinct through deep integration of technology, digital practice, innovative building systems and advanced models of delivery.

Located in HMC’s Los Angeles, California office, Pan will set design direction, lead clients and internal teams and build a design process and innovative culture that lives within the larger practice. This new model will create a platform for exploration of design ideas with a focus on bringing preeminent design and innovation to the HMC brand and its clients.

With over 20 years of experience, Pan is an award-winning architect and urban planner who has led the master planning and design of significant projects in the U.S. and internationally. From complex city design to hotels, hospitals, university campuses and civic centers—Pan’s versatility will benefit all of the firm’s practices and clients as it looks to expand beyond its current market.

A graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology , Pan has been widely published and recognized by award programs sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, Los Angeles Business Council and the Urban Land Institute, among others.

His designs have been honored in several international design competitions, including his design for Shunde Hospital, which received the National AIA American College of Healthcare Architects Design Award (unbuilt category) in 2011. Opened in 2018, the hospital was designated as the official pilot green hospital for development of China’s green guide for hospital design.

Pan is designing projects for some of the nation’s largest healthcare providers in northern and southern California, Oregon and Arizona. He leads this initiative for HMC at a time when the firm is capitalizing on significant opportunities in the healthcare sector.
