    IIDA Announces 7th Annual Healthcare Design Awards Winners

    IIDA announces the winners of the 2018 Healthcare Design Awards, which honor and celebrate outstanding originality and excellence in the design and furnishings of healthcare interior spaces.

    “As the commercial design industry as a whole continues to place people and their needs at the center of the spaces they create, healthcare designers are paving the way forward,” said IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA. “These projects expertly leverage design as a solution – a driver of positive patient outcomes – and serve as an example to which all of those in the profession can aspire.”

    Projects were reviewed by a panel of healthcare design professionals, including Michelle Clark, IIDA, senior associate, Rees Associates; Kerianne W. Graham, AIA, senior associate and healthcare architect, NBBJ and Anita Rossen, healthcare practice leader, Rice Fergus Miller, Inc. – a B Corp.

    The 2018 Healthcare Design Awards category winners are:

    Ambulatory ‑ Cancer Center

    Firm: EwingCole, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    Project: Memorial Sloan Kettering Bergen, Montvale, New Jersey

    Ambulatory ‑ Specialty Clinic

    Firm: Helix Architecture + Design, Kansas City, Missouri
    Project: Spira Care Centers, Shawnee, Kansas

    Ambulatory ‑ Urgent Care Center

    Firm: ZGF Architects LLP, Los Angeles, California
    Project: Cedars-Sinai, Playa Vista Physician Office & Urgent Care, Playa Vista, California

    Extended Care & Assisted Living Facilities ‑ Long Term Care

    Firm: THW Design, Atlanta, Georgia
    Project: Plymouth Harbor on Sarasota Bay, Sarasota, Florida

    Hospitals ‑ Academic/Teaching Hospitals

    Firm: CannonDesign in association with NEUF Architect(e)s
    Project: Centre Hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), Montréal, Quebec, Canada

    Hospitals ‑ Pediatric

    Firm: CBRE Heery, Iowa City, Iowa
    Project: University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa

    Firm: HGA Collaborating Offices: Los Angeles, California; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Washington, D.C.
    Project: The Elsie and Marvin Dekelboum Family Foundation Molecular Imaging Center, Washington, D.C.

    Transformation and Innovation Award
    Firm: Perkins+Will, Atlanta, Georgia; Miami, Florida
    Project: The Greater Accra Regional Hospital at Ridge, Accra, Ghana, West Africa

    The Best of Competition winner will be announced and all winners celebrated at a special awards reception in November at IIDA headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. Winning projects are featured on the IIDA website.
