IPD Approach Delivers Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital 4-Year Modernization Project

A four-year modernization project has been completed at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, located in Barrington, Illinois. Mortenson Construction teamed with architect HOK under an Integrated Lean Project Delivery approach.

The project added 230,000 square feet and renovated 150,000 square feet. Among the major improvements are four new inpatient units, including an expanded 18-bed medical intensive care unit and three medical/surgical units. All of the hospital’s 176 inpatient rooms now are private, and all new inpatient rooms are equipped with smart room technology. Green roofs provide energy-conserving insulation and absorb rainwater.

Work was phased into stages that required building temporary locations for some departments, while permanent spaces were created so the hospital could continue all of its operations and medical services throughout the project.
