National Association of Minority Contractors Names South Carolina Hospital Project of the Year

The National Association of Minority Contractors, South Carolina Chapter, has recognized the Medical University of South Carolina Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital as “Project of the Year.” The award is based on three categories: access, advocacy and capacity building. Jean-Marc Villain, director of supplier diversity at Medical University of South Carolina, accepted the award on behalf of the medical university.

Construction began in downtown Charleston, South Carolina in August 2016 on the 10-story, $385-million MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavilion and is expected to open in late 2019. The new facility will replace the 28-year-old MUSC Children’s Hospital, providing space for additional patients, expanded services and more spacious, family centered amenities.

Construction Managers Robins & Morton, along with associate partners Cumming Corporation and Brownstone Construction Group, have teamed up with numerous minority contractors based in South Carolina to build the facility. Some minority contractors include CCCS International, Paragon Builders, Palmetto Civil Group, LLE Construction, Hard Hat Transportation, Brown Enterprise and DK Hayden.
