Women’s and Infant Services Unit at Banner Casa Grande Medical Center Delivered Via Advanced Technologies, Prefabrication + Co-Location

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — Kitchell recently completed a large renovation and expansion of the Women and Infant Services Unit at Banner Casa Grande Medical Center in Central Arizona. The project architect was Devenney Group.

The year-long project created a new 27,800-square-feet obstetrical care unit and expanded and renovated labor, delivery and recovery rooms including private rooms for both mother and baby. The new unit also offers Level II Perinatal Services for high-risk pregnancies.

The project’s improvements included 17,740 square feet of renovations adding 12 postpartum rooms, four triage bays, prep rooms and nursing stations.

Advanced Building Information Modeling technology and virtual 3-D models were used during the coordination process to ensure all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems functioned optimally in the expansion and renovation.

A critical component of the project was the utilization of co-located work sessions in a BIM collaboration room. Kitchell’s prefabrication shop, The Kapture Group, worked with onsite construction and engineering teams to resolve issues in real-time – creating project efficiencies and solving problems before they escalated, saving time and costs.
