Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital Projects Advance
Construction for Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital’s $49-million modernization project kicked off in June with expansion of the central utility plant located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The electrical hub of the hospital is undergoing replacement of the electrical system, emergency generators and upgrades to the heating and cooling systems.
This month, consolidation and modernization of three separate ICUs into one 24-bed unit will begin. Both of these phases will be finalized in May 2018. The modernization project is set for completion in June 2020. Patients should experience minimal disruption. Comfort kits, consisting of an eye mask and noise-eliminating earbuds, are available to patients should sound become excessive.
A crane, scaffolding and other construction equipment are onsite at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach, which has begun a $35-million, two-story vertical expansion to serve current and future clinical and operational needs. The project will include space for 24 additional patient beds, rooms for sleep testing, cardiac telemetry space and a kidney dialysis unit, plus shell space for future program growth.
Exterior brick has been stripped off part of the building and other noisy demolition work will be underway during August to prepare the existing structure for the upward addition.
The windows in some patient rooms have been covered for safety and privacy. The healing garden outside the cafeteria has been closed during construction.
