Updated Aventura Hospital & Medical Center ED Lobby Sets Stage for Larger Expansion Project

Stantec has completed the architecture and design of HCA Aventura Hospital & Medical Center’s emergency department lobby. Located in Florida, the renovation of the 7,000-square-foot space is the catapult for a larger, new emergency department expansion project set to be completed later this year.

The new layout features 14 treatment pod areas created by modular partitions, which achieve a higher level of care and efficiency by providing more privacy and one-on-one experience between healthcare providers and patients. The new space includes two triage rooms, four consultation rooms, two nurse stations, one cashier’s room and one main waiting area. Additionally, the new results pending room will circulate low-acuity vertical patients away from exam rooms into a lounge area that boasts more of a relaxing atmosphere where they can wait on results.

While the space is modern and luxurious in design, it still maintains critical hospital standards. Earthy colors and materials were used throughout, with rich walnut wood tones interspersed with translucent panels and patterns inspired by nature. Touches of soft blue hues on the fabric, and large picturesque windows, allow the blue skies and landscape to be the perfect background.

“The challenge in this project was taking a very segmented and function-driven program and transforming it into an experiential space where we holistically placed patient and clinician wellness at the forefront, while driving processes onward with best practice design principles” said Yi Belanger, senior design manager, Stantec’s Miami office.

DPR Construction served as the general contractor on the project.
