New Clinic to Replace Ireland Army Community Hospital at Fort Knox

FORT KNOX, Ky. – CallisonRTKL and Mortenson Construction will design and construct the new medical clinic replacement for the Ireland Army Community Hospital located at Fort Knox in Kentucky. CallisonRTKL will be the architectural design firm on the project, and Mortenson Construction will provide pre-construction and construction services. The clinic will replace some of the functions of the current, aging Ireland Army Community Hospital, built in the mid-1950s.

The Ireland Army Community Hospital was directed to reduce services to an outpatient clinic and to realign capabilities and health services to meet the demands of Fort Knox and the U.S. Army. The replacement clinic will be smaller in size, complying with the needs of patients and offering a modern facility to the training base. It will include physical therapy, primary and specialty care clinics, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and mental health outpatient care. Nearby local hospitals will offer inpatient and emergency treatment.

The main design goals for the clinic include creating a patient- and family centered environment, improving the quality and safety of healthcare delivery, supporting the care of the whole person enhanced by contact with nature and positive distractions, developing a positive work environment and designing for maximum standardization and future flexibility and growth.
